It's a case more of it's just not hitch-hikers it starts of feeling rushed goes off on a tangent with a rather lame plot involving the vogons chasing down Zaphod has a pointless bit just so John Malkovic could be in it then gets back to the whale and the bowl of petunias then goes off on the vogan tangent again before having a generic happy ending O..o

Zaphod wasn't eccentric he was just crazy then goes all dumb.
Ford was pretty much written out of the main character list after then escape earth.
Trillian seems to have just turned into a love interest and lost all personality.
Aurthur seemed all to happy about everything and was no longer cynical.
Marvin was probally the closest but still just didn't sound depressive enough.

Stephen Fry as the Book was the best thing in the entire movie and even the books parts were minimal was very disappointed with it.
